Description

Strong spread directed east producing extra log ends on logs number 7, 8, and 9 from the bottom characterizes this thirty-seventh DDR for the 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial Cent Birth and Early Childhood design. The log cabin reverse, designed by Richard Masters and sculpted by Jim Licaretz, depicts the Kentucky cabin where Abraham Lincoln was born in 1809, and the detailed horizontal log construction provides an ideal canvas for revealing hub doubling. Die stage documentation under UVC-2760 and DMR-040 tracks three states: Stage A with reverse and obverse in Early Die State, Stage B in MDS (unconfirmed), and Stage C in LDS (unconfirmed). The eastward spread on three consecutive log ends creates visible extra thickness at the right side of the cabin wall, where the protruding log ends are a prominent design feature. Cataloged by VarietyVista, thirty-seven DDRs for the Bicentennial log cabin reverse reflects the extraordinary scrutiny variety researchers applied to this commemorative design during its single year of production in 2009. The Lincoln Bicentennial program featured four different reverse designs honoring stages of Lincoln's life, and the Birth and Early Childhood cabin proved especially fertile ground for doubled die discovery.
