Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista under UVC-2738 and DMR-023, this 2009 Philadelphia Lincoln Cent Early Childhood DDR-020 displays medium spread southeast, manifesting as an extra partial log end on log number 9 from the bottom. Four die stages document the die's working life: Stage A in early die state (unconfirmed), Stage B with a die crack on the roof above the window plus a die gouge under the R of AMERICA and a crack on the forehead, Stage C developing a crack through the JL initials to the rim with an additional crack in the hair toward the W of WE, and Stage D in late die state. The obverse is recorded at mid die state. The Early Childhood reverse — first of four 2009 Bicentennial designs — depicts the Kentucky log cabin where Abraham Lincoln was born. The cabin's individually rendered log ends provide fine design elements where hub displacement produces identifiable doubling, and the medium southeast spread on log 9 creates a ghost profile extending below and to the right of the primary element.
