2009 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-010

Description

Displaying very strong spread directed southeast but with characteristically light hubbing pressure, DDR-010 on the 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial Cent manifests as extra partial log ends on logs #8, #9, #10, and #11 (counting from the bottom) of the log cabin depicted on the "Birthplace" reverse — the first of four 2009 bicentennial designs showing the Kentucky cabin where Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809. Die markers UVC-2714 and DMR-012 fingerprint this specific working die, with three documented die stages: Stage A shows both the reverse and obverse in early die state (EDS), meaning the die was freshest and the doubling characteristics sharpest; Stage B progresses to mid-die state (MDS, unconfirmed); and Stage C reaches late die state (LDS, unconfirmed), where accumulated die fatigue would have softened the original features. The paradoxical combination of "very strong spread" direction with "light hubbing" intensity creates a distinctive appearance on the affected logs: the southeast displacement vector generated clearly directional extra partial log ends — visible as secondary truncated log ends appearing southeast of the primary ones — but the light hubbing pressure means these secondary images are shallow rather than deeply impressed. Desmond Henry and Don Everhart designed and sculpted the Birthplace reverse, which presents a one-room log cabin with a detailed horizontal log structure that makes it especially responsive to directional hub displacement. Struck in copper-plated zinc at 2.5 grams, this 2009 cent's DDR-010 signature is best examined at 7x to 10x magnification on logs #8 through #11, looking for the characteristic southeast-trailing partial log ends.
