Description

Featured on the Lincoln Bicentennial Early Childhood reverse designed by Richard Masters, this DDR-007 shows a medium spread to the northeast appearing as an extra partial log end on log number six from the bottom of the Kentucky log cabin. The log cabin motif, representing Lincoln's formative years in Kentucky, provided rich opportunities for doubled die varieties because the tightly spaced horizontal log ends amplified even minor hub misalignment. Cataloged by VarietyVista with UVC-2711 and DMR-009, four die stages are tracked: Stage A at early die state is unconfirmed, Stage B at early-to-mid die state develops a die crack along the roof above the window with the obverse also at early-to-mid die state, Stage C at mid-die state is unconfirmed, and Stage D at late die state is unconfirmed. The roof die crack in Stage B serves as a valuable die-state diagnostic. The 2009 Lincoln Cent was struck in copper-plated zinc and featured four rotating reverse designs celebrating Lincoln's birth and early childhood, formative years, professional life, and presidency. This Early Childhood design was one of four issues that year, each produced at both Philadelphia and Denver.
