Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista, the 2009 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-003 on the Lincoln Bicentennial Cent exhibits a strong spread to the southwest, visible as extra partial log ends on logs number 9 and 10 counted from the bottom of the log cabin depicted on the Birth and Early Childhood reverse designed by Richard Masters. This design showing the Kentucky log cabin where Lincoln was born was one of four commemorative reverses issued in 2009 for the Lincoln Bicentennial, struck in copper-plated zinc at 2.50 grams and 19.05 mm diameter. Die markers are UVC-2664 and DMR-005, with three documented die states: Stage A with the reverse at Early Die State showing a die crack on Lincoln's forehead with a die chip on its upper end at EMDS, Stage B at Mid Die State (unconfirmed), and Stage C at Late Die State (unconfirmed). The strong southwestern spread creating duplicate log ends on the cabin structure makes this variety detectable even under moderate magnification. Collectors searching for this variety should focus on the upper log cabin area where the extra partial ends protrude beyond the normal design boundary.
