2009 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-001
Error
Description
Belonging to the Early Childhood design and documented by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-2636 and DMR-003, this 2009 Philadelphia Lincoln Cent DDR comes from the first of four bicentennial reverses issued in 2009 to commemorate Lincoln's 200th birthday. The design depicts a log cabin representing Lincoln's Kentucky birthplace, and the doubling produces a strong spread to the west manifesting as an extra log end at log number ten from the bottom. As DDR-001, this was the first doubled die reverse documented for the Early Childhood reverse, establishing the primary reference variety. Stage A markers note early die state with a light die crack in the hair of the obverse Lincoln portrait. The log cabin composition, sculpted by Richard Masters, features stacked horizontal logs whose regular geometry makes hub displacement visually apparent — each log end provides a discrete reference point for measuring the secondary impression. The 2009 Bicentennial program generated substantial collector enthusiasm, and variety researchers documented all four reverse designs thoroughly. The extra log end diagnostic makes DDR-001 one of the more accessible varieties for collectors to identify.
