Description
Produced at the Denver Mint, the 2009 (D) Presidential Dollar - John Tyler, Position A is part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 43.5 million examples, making this ranked 9th of 16 mint variants by mintage, with 6% of production. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The tenth President (1841–1845), John Tyler was the first vice president to assume the presidency upon the death of a sitting president, establishing the critical precedent of full presidential succession. He oversaw the annexation of Texas in the final days of his term. William Henry Harrison, Tyler, Polk, and Taylor were released. "In God We Trust" moved from the edge to the obverse, ending the "Godless Dollar" controversy. Production remained high for circulation. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $5 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #407384.
