Description
The 2008 (D) Alaska State Quarter was struck at the Denver Mint as a quarter in the State Quarters 1999-2008 series. The U.S. Mint produced 254 million examples, making this ranked 7th of 10 mint variants by mintage, with 10% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs representing each of the 50 U.S. states, released in the order of statehood ratification. The reverse features a grizzly bear with a salmon clutched in its jaws, the North Star above, and the inscription "The Great Land." The design captures Alaska's vast wilderness and frontier spirit. Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, Alaska, and Hawaii. Final year of the 50 State Quarters Program. The DC and Territories program followed in 2009. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $3 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #39047.
