Description

Documented on a 2007 Philadelphia Mint James Madison Presidential Dollar struck in Position B, this cud represents a section of the reverse die that fractured at the rim and broke away during production. When a piece of the die separates at the rim, the resulting cavity fills with metal during striking, producing a raised featureless area on the finished coin that contrasts sharply with the surrounding design detail. The CU-100C-2007P-03R catalog code identifies this as the third documented reverse cud for the 2007-P Presidential Dollar denomination.
