2007 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-006

Description

The Position B striking of the 2007-P George Washington Presidential Dollar WDDR-006 (Wexler Variety ID: 2007-P $1 GW WDDR-006) carries the same hub doubling as the Position A counterpart but is cataloged separately because edge lettering orientation is a defining parent coin distinction. Position B coins have edge lettering that reads upside down when the obverse portrait is upright — a 180-degree difference from Position A. This arose from the edge-lettering collar process used for early Presidential dollar production, where orientation relative to the face dies was not mechanically controlled, producing roughly equal quantities of both positions. The reverse doubling is identical: hub spreading concentrates at the intersection of the second ray clockwise from the Statue of Liberty's head and the statue's right arm. The same die markers apply — four die gouges around the 1789 and 1797 date inscriptions, two die gouges to the right of the F in OF, and a strong die gouge west-southwest from the second A in AMERICA. Collectors should confirm edge lettering orientation after identifying hub doubling, as Position A and Position B are tracked separately in registry sets.
