2005 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-010

Description

Oregon's Crater Lake — the deepest lake in the United States, formed in the caldera of collapsed Mount Mazama — dominates the reverse of the 2005 State Quarter on which DDR-010 appears. This doubled die reverse displays light spread on the lower right side of the volcano, cataloged as UVC-1760 and DMR-012 in the VarietyVista registry. The doubling manifests in the geological contour lines of the volcanic rim, where the secondary hub impression produces a subtle shadow effect along the caldera's profile. Stage C documentation records the reverse in Late Die State with die cracks on the forehead, nose, lips, and chin of the Washington obverse portrait. Stages A and B at Early and Mid Die State remain unconfirmed. The spread on the volcano's lower right flank requires careful comparison against normal design relief, as Crater Lake's detailed topography presents multiple contour lines that can mimic doubling under casual inspection. Oregon was the 33rd state admitted in 1859.
