2005 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-007
Error
Description
Light spread on the lowest three left branches of the small tree identifies this 2005 Philadelphia Oregon State Quarter doubled die reverse, cataloged by VarietyVista as DDR-007 with die classification UVC-1682 and die marriage DMR-009. Both obverse and reverse are documented in early die state, with mid and late die states unconfirmed. This variety can be found in Satin Finish Mint Sets — the special uncirculated sets produced from 2005 through 2010 that featured a distinctive matte surface treatment on coins struck from specially prepared dies. Oregon's State Quarter reverse, designed by Donna Weaver, depicts Crater Lake with Wizard Island — the deepest lake in the United States, formed within Mount Mazama's volcanic caldera. The small tree in the foreground of the design, whose lowest left branches carry the doubling, helps frame the dramatic caldera landscape. The 2005 Oregon issue was the twenty-ninth coin in the 50 State Quarters Program, and Crater Lake's geological drama made it one of the more visually striking designs in the series. Struck on copper-nickel clad at 24.3mm with Washington's portrait on the obverse. Examine the lowest three branches on the left side of the small foreground tree for the light spread that characterizes this Satin Finish variety.
