2005 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-004

Description

Crater Lake's volcanic caldera provides the dramatic backdrop for this 2005-P Oregon State Quarter DDR-004, which displays strong spread below the lower right side of the volcano. Oregon's reverse features Crater Lake — the deepest lake in the United States, formed in the collapsed caldera of Mount Mazama — and the volcanic rim's contours proved susceptible to visible doubling when hub alignment deviated. The strong spread produces a distinct doubled outline along the lower right rim. Stage A records both sides in early die state. Stages B and C remain unconfirmed. Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-1534 and DMR-006, DDR-004 is a Philadelphia Mint issue from the 2005 State Quarters Program. The strong spread distinguishes DDR-004 from Denver's DDR-010, which shows medium spread in the same location. Collectors should focus on contours below and to the right of the volcanic rim, where hub displacement consistently manifests.
