2005 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-051

Description

Found exclusively in 2005 Mint Sets, DDR-051 is a doubled die reverse variety on the Minnesota State Quarter struck at Philadelphia with the distinctive satin finish produced by burnished blanks and laser-finished dies. The doubling manifests as a medium spread creating an extra tree visible to the lower right of the third full tree down in the rock formation on the Minnesota reverse — a design element depicting the state's famed Boundary Waters landscape. This variety should not be confused with the well-known FS extra tree varieties, as DDR-051 is a separately cataloged doubled die with its own distinct characteristics. Cross-referenced as UVC-1506 and DMR-054, the variety has been documented in three die stages: Stage A in early die state, Stage B in mid-die-state where condition remains unconfirmed, and Stage C in late die state also unconfirmed.
