2005 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-045

Description

Among the most famous modern quarter varieties, the Minnesota State Quarter extra tree doubled dies captured public attention when discovered in circulation shortly after release. This DDR-045 shows very strong spread appearing as an extra tree to the right of the third tree, with additional doubling to the right of the second full tree, creating the distinctive appearance that made Minnesota quarter varieties widely sought. The reverse depicts a lake scene with a fisherman and tree-lined shore, designed by Charles Vickers. Tracked under VarietyVista codes UVC-1500 and DMR-048 with three die stages: Stage A in early die state on both sides, Stage B at mid-die-state unconfirmed, and Stage C at late die state unconfirmed. The extra tree Minnesota quarters brought die variety collecting into mainstream awareness, with news outlets across the country reporting on the phenomenon and driving search activity among the general public. These varieties demonstrated that significant die errors could still occur on modern coinage produced under contemporary quality controls.
