2005 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-027
Error
Description
On the reverse of the 2005 Philadelphia Mint Minnesota State Quarter, this twenty-seventh documented doubled die reverse produces a medium spread to the west, visible as an oblong diagonal area on the third full tree to the right of the state outline. The Minnesota reverse, designed by Charles Vickers, depicts the Land of 10,000 Lakes with a loon on a lake, shoreline trees, and two people fishing — and the tree elements proved fertile ground for doubled die discoveries, with twenty-seven DDRs cataloged for this date alone. The westward spread indicates the hub shifted to the left between impressions, distorting the tree detail in that direction. Cataloged by VarietyVista with die marker codes UVC-1481 and DMR-029, the variety is documented across three die states: Stage A with both reverse and obverse in early die state, Stage B at mid-die-state (unconfirmed), and Stage C at late die state (unconfirmed). The 2005 Minnesota quarter is part of the 50 State Quarters program (1999-2008), a series that generated unprecedented public interest in coins and drove extensive die variety research on each state's unique reverse design.
