Description

Strong spread directed south on the two high points in the relief of the top of the rock makes this 2005 Minnesota State Quarter DDR-025 part of the celebrated family of Minnesota doubled die varieties that captured collector attention nationwide. The Minnesota quarter's reverse, depicting a lake scene with exposed rock formations and trees, became famous when several varieties showed dramatic doubling on the rock and tree elements, creating what collectors dubbed "extra trees" and doubled rock features that were visible to the naked eye on the strongest examples. This twenty-fifth cataloged DDR shows the southward displacement concentrated on the rock's summit, where the high-relief topography amplified the visual impact of the hub misalignment. Die markers include UVC-1479 and DMR-027. Three die stages are documented: Stage A with both reverse and obverse in Early Die State, Stage B in Mid-Die State (unconfirmed), and Stage C in Late Die State (unconfirmed). Attributed by VarietyVista. Minnesota quarter doubled dies rank among the most widely publicized modern varieties, having been featured in mainstream news coverage.
