Description

On the 2005-D Oregon State Quarter, the DDR-003 variety presents a strong spread below the lower right side of the volcano depicted on the Crater Lake reverse design. Oregon's quarter, released as part of the State Quarters program, features Crater Lake — the deepest lake in the United States, formed in the collapsed caldera of Mount Mazama — framed by evergreens. The doubling on DDR-003 appears along the volcanic landform's lower right contour, where misalignment between hubbing impressions left a secondary displaced image of the design outline. Die markers are cross-referenced as UVC-1554 and DMR-005. Stage A was early die state (unconfirmed). By Stage B (early-mid die state) two small die depressions appeared above the 00 of the date, small die chips formed on the front of the bust line, and a small die chip appeared on the lower ribbon edge. Stage C was late die state (unconfirmed). Variety attributed by VarietyVista.
