Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 2005-D 25¢ OR WDDR-003 and cross-referenced as CONECA 3-R-VIII, this Denver Oregon state quarter shows doubling on the underside of the right end of Wizard Island within Crater Lake. The obverse displays several confirming markers: die gouges between the R and U and between the U and S of TRUST, two die chips on the lower upper ribbon of the queue, die chips at the bottom of the long queue ribbon, a die crack across the front tip of the bust point, and several die chips on the lips and chin. On the reverse, a small die gouge sits south of the right side of the A in CRATER, and two small die gouges appear near the top left side of the tall tree. Oregon state quarters feature one of the most scenic designs in the series, depicting Crater Lake with Wizard Island, and the doubled island edge provides collectors with a geographically fitting variety on a design that rewards careful examination. The CONECA 3-R-VIII cross-reference confirms independent recognition of this die by multiple attribution services.
