2004-D Doubled Die Reverse DDR-001

Description

Denver's counterpart to the Philadelphia DDR-001 on the 2004 Wisconsin State Quarter, this variety targets the identical area — medium spread on Washington's lower outer nostril — but originated from an entirely separate Denver Mint die. The parallel emergence of nostril doubling at both facilities suggests the anomaly may trace to a shared working hub carrying the displacement before individual dies were produced, though independent hubbing errors remain possible. Die markers UVC-1739 and DMR-002 support attribution. Three die stages chart production history: Stage A at Early Die State remains unconfirmed, Stage B at Mid Die State includes a die crack across the front of the bust, and Stage C at Late Die State is unconfirmed. Both D-mint and P-mint DDR-001 varieties share the same doubling location and similar MDS die crack patterns. Like its Philadelphia sibling, the Denver DDR-001 stands apart from the celebrated Extra Leaf varieties that dominate Wisconsin quarter collecting — this is a portrait-side hub doubling variety, not a reverse design anomaly on the state-specific cheese wheel motif.
