2004D-1DER-004WS Trail Die Reverse
Error
Description
Discovered and photographed by Richard Cooper of Arizona, this 2004 Denver Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent is a trail die reverse with design transfer artifacts offset from primary features. At Stage “B,” the obverse is at MDS with two small die gouges — one on the lapel and another on the vest of Lincoln. The reverse at MDS shows a die gouge between the E of ONE and C of CENT, plus another between the A and M of AMERICA. These denomination and country-name gouges provide clear identification markers. Composed of copper-plated zinc weighing 2.5 grams at 19.05 mm diameter, this was struck during the later years of Gasparro's Memorial design. The discoverer credit with the photography notation reflects the documentation standards in the trail die community where photographic evidence is integral to the variety's record.
