2003 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-012

Description

The 2003 WDDR-012 Lincoln Memorial cent from Philadelphia exhibits doubling on the lower right side of the sixth column, positioned to the left of the statue's lower legs, with additional doubling visible between the statue's legs. The Wexler designation is 2003 1¢ WDDR-012. Die markers on the obverse include a die gouge located well to the west-southwest of the letter I in IN GOD WE TRUST. On the reverse, a small die gouge shaped like a dot appears to the right of the bottom of the third column, and a short die crack runs northward from the top of the second column. The presence of the die crack on the second column is particularly notable, as progressive die cracking can help determine the relative die state of individual specimens. Collectors who locate examples with more extensive cracking may hold later die state pieces, adding another dimension to the variety's collectibility. The combination of column doubling and inter-leg doubling makes this entry a useful study piece for understanding how hub misalignment manifests differently across various areas of the Memorial reverse design.
