2002 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-007

Description

Identified by VarietyVista under UVC-3240 / DMR-008, the 2002 DDR-007 Lincoln Memorial cent from Philadelphia shows medium spread to the east, manifesting as an extra column #6 from the knee to the foot of the Lincoln statue. Column #6, immediately left of the seated figure, is a common target for eastward hub doubling on Memorial reverses, and the knee-to-foot extent mirrors the pattern seen on the 2001 DDR-018 — though each variety originates from a distinct working die with its own unique surface characteristics. Confirmed at Early Die State (Stage A), this die was examined before significant wear or deterioration could obscure the doubling. The 2002 Philadelphia cent production exceeded 3.2 billion pieces, providing ample opportunity for multiple doubled die reverses to enter circulation undetected. Partial-column doubling limited to the lower portion of the statue requires closer inspection under magnification than varieties where the ghost column spans the full height, making DDR-007 a variety best confirmed with a 10x loupe or higher.
