Description

Rather than the column doubling that dominates Memorial cent DDR catalogs, the 2002 Philadelphia Lincoln Cent DDR-003 shows medium spread South and rotated clockwise as an extra right chair arm — the arm of the seated Lincoln figure visible within the Memorial. This unusual combination of southward displacement and clockwise rotation produced a secondary image of the chair arm below and slightly rotated from the primary, creating an unmistakable doubled feature on a design element most collectors examine closely. Die markers UVC-2880 and DMR-004 provide the attribution references. Three die stages document the die's full service life, from early through late die state, tracking how the doubled chair arm appeared at different points in the die's progression. Chair arm doubling is less common than column doubling on Memorial cents because the chair occupies a small area within the Memorial interior, requiring a specific direction and magnitude of hub displacement to produce visible spread. The South-and-clockwise-rotation combination distinguishes DDR-003 from the numerous column varieties cataloged for 2002 Philadelphia cents.
