Description

Exhibiting a strong spread rotated counterclockwise by twenty degrees, this 2001-D Lincoln Memorial cent doubled die reverse creates an extra double column at position seven, with the shin connected to the hand and the knee to the shoulder of the Lincoln statue. Attributed by VarietyVista with die classification UVC-2981 and marker reference DMR-002, the die was documented at Stage A where the reverse is in early die state and the obverse is in mid die state, while Stages B and C remain unconfirmed. The twenty-degree rotational component distinguishes DDR-001 from straightforward pivot or distorted hub varieties, producing a curved displacement pattern that maps the architectural details of column seven onto adjacent areas of the Memorial facade. Struck at the Denver Mint, this variety represents the first doubled die reverse cataloged for the 2001-D date. The strong rotational spread connecting anatomical features of the statue to architectural elements of the colonnade makes this one of the more visually dramatic Memorial reverse errors, and collectors should examine column seven and surrounding statue detail to appreciate the displacement.
