Description

Displaying a distinctive rotated counterclockwise spread of approximately twenty degrees, this 2001-D Lincoln Memorial cent reverse variety manifests as an extra doubled column at position seven, with the shin connected to the hand and the knee to the elbow of the Lincoln statue. Attributed by VarietyVista with die classification UVC-2982 and marker reference DMR-003, the die was documented at Stage A where the reverse is in early-to-mid die state and the obverse is in mid die state, with Stages B and C unconfirmed. Rotated hub doubling creates a curved displacement pattern that differs from the straight-line shift seen in pivot or distorted hub varieties, making these specimens visually distinctive. Struck at the Denver Mint, this DDR-002 represents a medium spread variety where the rotational element connects architectural features of the Memorial columns to anatomical details of the standing Lincoln figure. The interconnection of shin-to-hand and knee-to-elbow creates diagnostic markers that are unique to this die pair and readily identifiable under moderate magnification.
