2000 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-014

Description

Fourteenth in the reverse doubled die census for the 2000 Lincoln Memorial cent, DDR-014 reveals light southwestward spread creating an extra column number 7 — visible from the knee to the shin of the seated Lincoln figure — plus an extra knee between the figure's knees inside Frank Gasparro's memorial facade. VarietyVista assigned identifiers UVC-3109 and DMR-016, tracking three die stages: Stage A where the reverse exhibits early die state while the obverse has progressed to mid die state, Stage B at mid die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C at late die state (unconfirmed). The asymmetric die state at Stage A — reverse EDS with obverse MDS — indicates the reverse die entered this marriage after its obverse partner had already seen significant production use. Unlike the predominantly westward-spread phantom column varieties that dominate the 1999-2000 DDR census, DDR-014 exhibits a southwestward displacement direction, adding a vertical component to the horizontal shift that positions the ghost column both to the left of and slightly below its normal position. The RDV-007 reverse design variant connects this die to the same hub lineage as the broader phantom column family. Philadelphia's production of approximately 5.50 billion cents in 2000 generated the enormous die consumption that produced at least fourteen independent reverse hub doubling events for this date. The knee-to-shin range of the extra column covers the middle-lower portion of the memorial interior, while the additional knee between the seated figure's knees provides a secondary anatomical doubling diagnostic independent of the phantom column. Light spread classification means both the extra column and the doubled knee require careful examination to detect, as the secondary impressions partially overlap the primary design elements. Collectors should focus examination at 10-15x magnification on the column area between the sixth and seventh positions and the knee zone of the seated figure.
