Description

Presenting a light spread to the northeast, the VarietyVista-cataloged 2000 Lincoln Memorial Cent DDR-004 manifests as an extra right knee on the seated Lincoln statue within Frank Gasparro's Memorial reverse — a distinctive anatomical doubling diagnostic. The northeast displacement differs from the purely directional east or west spreads seen on many Memorial cent DDRs, creating a diagonal ghost of the knee detail. Die markers UVC-2966 and DMR-006 identify the working die, which carries the reverse die variety designation RDV-007. Three die stages are documented, with Stage A providing two notable diagnostics: the reverse in early die state plus a die clash visible under Lincoln's ear, indicating the obverse and reverse dies struck each other without a planchet between them during early production. Stage B is tentatively mid-die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C tentatively late die state (unconfirmed). The Stage A die clash under the ear offers a powerful early-state attribution shortcut. This Philadelphia Mint regular strike was produced in copper-plated zinc. Compare with the 2000 DDR-019, which shows westward spread at column 7 rather than DDR-004's northeast displacement at the knee. Examine the right knee area for the northeast ghost image and check under Lincoln's ear for die clash evidence.
