2000-D Doubled Die Reverse DDR-002
Error
Description
Turning the millennium with a doubled die reverse, the 2000-D Lincoln Memorial Cent DDR-002 shows light spread in the West direction as an extra partial column #7 — the westernmost column of the Memorial facade — with the secondary image extending from hand level down to knee level. This hand-to-knee extent covers the upper portion of the column, producing a ghost column that fades before reaching the pedestal. West-direction spread displaces the secondary image to the left of the primary column, and light classification indicates the separation is subtle, requiring magnification to distinguish the doubled column from the primary. The year 2000 was the last Lincoln cent produced with an all-capital-letters reverse legend, before the 2005 redesigned reverse debuted. Three die stages track the die's progression: Stage A records both reverse and obverse in Early Die State, while Stage B and Stage C at Mid and Late Die State respectively remain unconfirmed. The Denver Mint's high-volume cent production in 2000 consumed numerous working dies, and DDR-002 represents one of the earlier cataloged reverse varieties for this date, identifiable by its upper-column West-side spread.
