1999 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-013
Error
Description
Within the remarkably deep reverse doubled die census for the 1999 Lincoln Memorial cent, DDR-013 presents medium spread with a slight counterclockwise rotation, manifesting as an extra column number 7 in the memorial facade — specifically visible from the seated Lincoln figure's hand down to the ankle level — along with an extra foot appearing between the figure's two feet. Frank Gasparro's Lincoln Memorial reverse, depicting the seated president visible through the central opening, provides the columned architectural framework where phantom column varieties register most clearly against the regular spacing of the colonnade. VarietyVista cataloged this die under UVC-3105 and DMR-016, with three documented stages: Stage A where both reverse and obverse surfaces are at early die state, Stage B at mid die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C at late die state (unconfirmed). The RDV-007 reverse design variant connects DDR-013 to the same hub lineage as the other 1999 phantom column DDRs. Philadelphia produced approximately 5.24 billion cents in 1999, driving die consumption rates that generated this extensive family of independently doubled dies. The slight counterclockwise rotational component distinguishes DDR-013 from purely linear westward-spread DDRs, as the rotation imparts a curved displacement trajectory that produces the extra foot diagnostic — an anatomical doubling where the secondary hub impression placed a ghost foot image between the primary foot positions. The hand-to-ankle range spans nearly the full height of the seated figure, making this one of the more vertically extensive phantom column DDRs in the 1999 census. Collectors should look for the extra foot under moderate magnification as a distinctive confirmation point independent of the column doubling itself.
