1999 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-006
Error
Description
Sixth in the 1999 Lincoln Memorial cent DDR census, DDR-006 exhibits medium westward spread creating an extra column number 7 visible from the elbow to the shin of the seated Lincoln figure. VarietyVista documented this die under UVC-2971 and DMR-008, with three die stages: Stage A where both reverse and obverse surfaces are at early die state, Stage B at mid die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C at late die state (unconfirmed). The EDS confirmation for Stage A ensures that collectors can find specimens preserving the doubling at maximum sharpness on unworn die surfaces. The RDV-007 reverse design variant connects DDR-006 to the phantom column family that dominates the 1999 Lincoln Memorial cent DDR catalog. Philadelphia's enormous 1999 production of approximately 5.24 billion cents required a vast inventory of working dies, and the statistical frequency of hub doubling events across this die population produced the remarkably deep DDR census documented by VarietyVista. The elbow-to-shin range of the extra column on DDR-006 spans from the upper arm area down through the lower leg, covering a broad vertical zone of the memorial interior that overlaps with several other documented DDRs — DDR-007's elbow-to-knee and DDR-003's knee-to-foot ranges, for example. Frank Gasparro's Lincoln Memorial reverse design provides the columned architectural framework where these phantom column varieties are most easily detected, as the regular spacing of the memorial's colonnade creates a visual grid against which any additional column element immediately registers as anomalous. The DMR-008 die marriage number, shared with the 2000 DDR-006, suggests parallel numbering sequences within VarietyVista's registry across adjacent production years.
