Trail lines — raised linear features caused by progressive die erosion — appear on multiple elements: the E, P, and U of E PLURIBUS UNUM, the OF below the motto, and the last S of STATES all exhibit trail line distortion. The offset direction of approximately 300 degrees indicates the angular orientation along which the die surface eroded, helping characterize the specific deterioration pattern.
