Description
Second reverse cud for the 1997 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial Cent, struck on copper-plated zinc standard since 1982. The softer zinc core with thin copper cladding behaves differently under compression than homogeneous bronze, potentially affecting fracture development in die steel. A cud manifests when a rim section fractures, separates, and leaves a cavity filling with planchet metal under striking pressure. Philadelphia produced billions of cents through the late 1990s.
