The 1995 (P) Proof Special Olympics Dollar is a proof commemorative dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The U.S. Mint produced 351,764 examples. Authorized to commemorate the 1995 Special Olympics World Games held in New Haven, Connecticut, this dollar honored Eunice Kennedy Shriver, who founded the Special Olympics in 1968. The obverse features a portrait of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, founder of the Special Olympics — the first U.S. coin to depict a living woman, while the reverse displays a long-stemmed rose and a Special Olympics medal on a ribbon, with Shriver's quote: 'As we hope for the best in them, hope is reborn in us'. Designed by T. James Ferrell/Thomas D. Rogers. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9705.
