Part of the Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games program, this $5 gold coin celebrates the Olympic torch relay tradition. The modern torch relay was introduced at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, and the 1996 relay covered 15,000 miles across the United States before arriving in Atlanta. The obverse features a torch runner carrying the Olympic flame with the Atlanta city skyline in the background, while the reverse displays a bald eagle with a banner bearing the centennial dates '1896-1996'.
