1994P-1DER-001WST Trail Die Reverse

Description

Found by Joshua Haynes, 1994P-1DER-001WST is the first cataloged reverse trail die for the 1994 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent and one of the most detailed in the series. The reverse exhibits strong step deviation under columns 5 through 8, with lighter deviation visible under columns 4 and 9. A fluting line extension reaches into the stylobate under columns 10, 11, and 12, accompanied by added extensions on the designer's initials and the right-hand corners of the stylobate. The base line shows extra thickness on the right side. Classified as Stage B at mid die state (MDS), the obverse carries no noted markers. The reverse, also MDS, shows an imminent large die chip forming on the left side of column 1, a small die gouge next to the left corner of the cornice, and two small die dots on the roof line under both Us of UNUM. The WST suffix indicates this die displays wavy steps with trails — a combination of lateral step displacement and directional metal flow lines emanating from the Memorial's architectural features.

• Reverse is MDS – the formation of a large die chip on the left side of column # 1 is eminent. A small die gouge is next to the left corner of the cornice. Two small die dots are on the roof line under both Us of UNUM.
