Description
The 1993 (S) Proof James Madison / Bill of Rights Commemorative Half Dollar is a proof commemorative half dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint. Total mintage reached 586,315. Part of the 1993 Bill of Rights bicentennial three-coin program, this half dollar shows Madison in the act of drafting the amendments that would become the Bill of Rights. The obverse features a seated half-portrait of James Madison, facing right, with quill pen in hand writing on parchment, with Montpelier in the background, while the reverse displays a hand holding a flaming torch of freedom. Designed by T.James Ferrell/Dean McMullen. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 11.34 grams, 30.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9669. The Bill of Rights half dollar's intimate portrayal of Madison at work makes it one of the more narrative designs in the modern commemorative series.
