Description
The 1993 (P) Proof World War II 50th Anniversary Commemorative Half Dollar is a proof commemorative half dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The U.S. Mint produced 317,396 examples. Part of the World War II 50th Anniversary commemorative program, this half dollar captures both the European and Pacific theaters. The obverse features the faces of three U.S. service members superimposed on a large 'V' for victory, with a B-17 bomber above and five stars at top, while the reverse displays a Pacific Island battle scene with a soldier on a beach aiming his rifle. Designed by George Klauba/Bill J. Leftwich. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 11.34 grams, 30.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9675. The WWII half dollar's multi-theater design gives collectors a broader perspective on the conflict than the dollar's D-Day focus.
