Documented by Cuds on Coins and cataloged on December 19, 2018, this rim cud on a 1993-D Washington Quarter is the first (and at the time of cataloging, possibly only) cud recorded for this date-mint combination. The "01" designation confirms its premiere position in the 1993-D quarter cud census. Rim cuds represent catastrophic die failures where a segment of the die's edge breaks away entirely, leaving a cavity that fills with metal during subsequent strikes and produces a raised, smooth, detail-free mass at the coin's periphery.
