1993D-1DER-014WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

Three reverse die markers on the 014WS reference different tiers of the Memorial's architecture — the stylobate, the columns, and the stairs — illustrating how variety specialists navigate Gasparro's building from foundation to roof when cataloging defect positions. A small die chip sits in the stylobate under column 2, the lowest horizontal element of the structure. A small die gouge appears on the lower right of column 6, one tier up among the vertical supports. And a die chip occupies the stairs under column 7, the stepped surface between the stylobate and the building's interior floor line. These three landmarks, stacked vertically across different architectural planes, would be almost impossible to replicate on any other die pair, making the 014WS one of the more confidently attributable varieties in the census. The trail die effect includes light fluting under columns 2 and 3 and moderate step deviation under columns 5, 6, 7, and 8 at a 190-degree offset direction. The obverse shows no observed markers at Stage B mid-die-state. Struck at Denver on copper-plated zinc planchets, 2.5 grams, 19mm, plain edge.
