1993D-1DER-013WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

Gasparro's Memorial reverse includes decorative elements flanking the building's entrance — among them urn-shaped structures atop low posts on each side of the stairway. The 013WS reverse carries a small die dot in the shrub next to the right urn, using this architectural ornament as a positional reference. These urns rarely appear in variety descriptions because they occupy such a small area, but when a defect lands near one it provides an exceptionally precise locational anchor. On the obverse, three small die gouges cluster under Lincoln's chin. The trail die effect presents as moderate step deviation under columns 5, 7, and 8 with emphasis on the left side, offset at 180 degrees. The notation "emphasis on the left" indicates that step displacement is not uniform — it diminishes from left to right, consistent with a die whose lateral shift was greatest at one end of its travel. Cataloged at Stage B mid-die-state. Struck at Denver on copper-plated zinc planchets, 2.5 grams, 19mm, plain edge.
