1993D-1DER-007WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

No other variety in the 1993-D census matches the breadth of displacement on the 007WS. Very strong step deviation spans columns 4 through 9 — six consecutive columns — while moderate to strong fluting extends into the stylobate under columns 3, 10, 11, and 12, covering four additional columns on the building's right side. Light step deviation also appears under the right post. Altogether, the trail die signature touches ten of the twelve columns plus a flanking post, making this the most extensively affected reverse die in the entire thirty-variety census. Right-side fluting under columns 10, 11, and 12 is itself unusual — most trail die fluting concentrates under left-side columns 2 and 3, where the stylobate geometry seems most susceptible to lateral displacement artifacts. At Stage C late die state, the obverse carries a die gouge on Lincoln's forehead and another to the right of the 3 in the date near the rim, while the reverse shows a die scratch in the O of ONE. Struck at Denver on copper-plated zinc planchets, 2.5 grams, 19mm, plain edge.
