Description

Closing the 1992 Philadelphia trail die reverse census at six cataloged varieties, 1992P-1DER-006T was discovered by Rock Hasenberg and documented at Stage B in a Mid Die State (MDS). The obverse shows a die gouge above the L of LIBERTY and die damage to the left of the 2 digit in the date — a positional marker that anchors attribution precisely, since damage near a specific date numeral narrows identification to this die pair alone. The reverse carries a die gouge below the N of CENT. Together, these three markers — the L-of-LIBERTY gouge, the date-area damage, and the N-of-CENT gouge — form a triangulated set of diagnostics that allow confident attribution even on moderately worn specimens. As the sixth and final trail die reverse for 1992-P, this variety completes a census that is notably smaller than the eighteen-variety 1992-D trail die census, reflecting the different die usage patterns between the Philadelphia and Denver facilities during this production year. The T suffix designates tilted trails, consistent with the majority of the 1992-P trail die reverses that carry the tilted rather than wavy steps designation. Struck at Philadelphia on copper-plated zinc planchets, 2.5 grams, 19mm, plain edge.
