Description

Representing the seventh and final trail die reverse cataloged for the 1991 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent, 1991P-1DER-007T documents a Stage C Late Die State (LDS) specimen showing the cumulative toll of extended production on the obverse die. The obverse carries a gouge below the U in TRUST, additional gouges under Lincoln's chin, and further gouges scattered around the date area — a concentration of surface damage consistent with a die approaching the end of its service life. No notable markers were observed on the reverse die at this stage. Found by Aisha Shahid, this terminal entry in the seven-variety 1991-P trail die sequence completes a comprehensive record of die pairing changes at the Philadelphia Mint during 1991 cent production. The progression from entry 001 through 007 traces die installations and replacements across the production calendar, with the Late Die State designation on this final entry indicating that the obverse die had accumulated significant deterioration by the time this pairing was documented. Struck at Philadelphia on copper-plated zinc planchets composed of 97.5% zinc and 2.5% copper, weighing 2.5 grams and measuring 19mm.

Die Markers
