Description
The 1991 (D) Mount Rushmore Golden Anniversary Commemorative Half Dollar is a commemorative half dollar struck at the Denver Mint. The U.S. Mint produced 172,754 examples. Part of the 1991 three-coin Mount Rushmore Golden Anniversary program, this half dollar depicts the memorial in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The obverse features mount Rushmore with a brilliant sunburst behind the carved presidential faces, while the reverse displays an American bison standing on the plains. Designed by Marcel Jovine. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 11.34 grams, 30.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9642. The Mount Rushmore half dollar's combination of the presidential carving and the bison makes it a distinctively Western-themed commemorative.
