Description

Cross-referenced as Crawford CDDR-001, the 1990-D Lincoln Memorial cent WDDR-002 exhibits one of the more distinctive doubled die reverse signatures for this date: an extra Memorial column visible in the first Memorial bay. This ghostly additional column — created when the hub impressed a slightly shifted image onto the working die during a second hubbing — provides collectors with a clear, locatable diagnostic that simplifies attribution even under modest magnification. The obverse die that paired with this reverse carried three parallel scratches running northwest to southeast between the B and E of LIBERTY, along with additional diagnostic markers. On the reverse, a die scratch below the E in E PLURIBUS UNUM, a gouge above the F in the FG designer's initials, and die pitting to the right of the T in CENT establish the specific die pairing. The dual cross-referencing between the Crawford and Wexler catalogs — CDDR-001 and WDDR-002 respectively — reflects the parallel attribution systems that serve the die variety community, with each catalog providing independent confirmation of the variety's legitimacy. Struck at the Denver Mint on a copper-plated zinc planchet (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper) at 2.5 grams and 19mm diameter. A small die gouge can be found above the F in FG.
