Description
The 1989 (S) Proof Congressional Commemorative Half Dollar is a proof commemorative half dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint. Total mintage reached 767,897. Part of the 1989 three-coin program celebrating the bicentennial of the United States Congress, this half dollar features a close-up of the Statue of Freedom. The obverse features a bust of the Statue of Freedom that stands atop the U.S. Capitol dome, while the reverse displays an elevational view of the full U.S. Capitol Building. Designed by William Woodard. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 11.34 grams, 30.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9633. The Congress half dollar provides a more intimate view of the Statue of Freedom than the dollar's full-figure depiction, offering collectors a complementary perspective.
