The 1986 (S) Proof Statue Of Liberty Dollar is a proof commemorative dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint. Total mintage reached 6.4 million. Part of a three-coin program celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty's dedication in 1886, this silver dollar was authorized by Congress (Public Law 99-61). The obverse features the full Statue of Liberty with the Registry Room of Ellis Island in the background, while the reverse displays Liberty's torch rising above an excerpt from Emma Lazarus's poem: 'Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free'.
