1986-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-018

Description

The final Wexler-cataloged repunched mint mark for the 1986-D date, WRPM-018 is classified as D/D Southwest with the secondary impression displaced to the lower-left of the primary punch position. No cross-references are currently known. The obverse markers are dominated by light die scratches running north-south through and left of the date and behind Lincoln's neck. On the reverse, a light die scratch runs northeast-to-southwest in lower memorial bay 11, a die gouge appears above the left memorial base west of stair one, and a small die gouge (dot) sits in the lower center of bay 1. As the eighteenth WRPM, this variety closes an extensive catalog of hand-punched mint mark anomalies — combined with the VarietyVista RPM listings, the 1986-D Lincoln cent boasts one of the richest RPM collections in the Memorial cent series. Struck at Denver on copper-plated zinc planchets at 2.5 grams and 19mm.
