Description

Another D/D Tilted variety alongside WRPM-015 but from a different working die, WRPM-016 on the 1986-D Lincoln Memorial cent has no known cross-references. Stage A obverse markers include a die gouge under E in LIBERTY and a fine north-south die scratch through the upper opening in the E of WE. Both persist into Stage B, which adds a die gouge left of S in TRUST and a die gouge on the lower shoulder fold. On the reverse, Stage A documents a die gouge inside the opening of C in AMERICA. By Stage B, this gouge is only faintly present, and a new die gouge has appeared right of the lower T in CENT. The progressive weakening of the C gouge alongside the emergence of the CENT gouge demonstrates typical die evolution where original features erode while new stress-related anomalies develop. Struck at Denver on copper-plated zinc planchets (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper) at 2.5 grams and 19mm.
